Who is the Duke of Zhou
Zhou Gong, the fourth son of King Wen of Zhou, was a famous politician, military strategist, thinker and educator in ancient China. He was respected as the 'Yuan sage'. He had twice assisted King Wu of Zhou in the east to fight King Zhou, and also formulated rites and music to realize the rule of the world. Because his fief was in Zhou and his poem was Shang Gong, people called him Zhou Gong.
The Duke of Zhou is a model of political leaders in later generations. The Confucian school regards the personality model of Duke Zhou as the highest model, the highest political ideal is the benevolent government in the early Zhou, and Confucius advocated the ritual and music system of Duke Zhou all his life. His words are found in various chapters of the Book of Shang, and he is revered as the founder of Confucianism, Confucius said in the Analects of Confucius: 'Even I have grown old! I no longer dream of Duke Zhou.'
